Mikumi Park

Mikumi Park borders the north of Africa’s largest game reserve, the Selous.
It’s a vital corridor for wildlife.

Escape

The park is a swampy plain in the wet season with baobabs and Palmyra or borasse palms, whose local name is Mikumi. To the north are the plains and to the south the savannah, all separated by the road between Dar es Salaam and Iringa.

There is a high concentration of wildlife here, with no fewer than 15,000 large animals, including wildebeest, eland antelope, buffalo, zebra, herds of elephant, giraffe, greater kudu and lion…

More than 400 species of birds have been counted, including colorful birds such as the lilac-throated roller, the yellow-throated sentinel and the bateleur eagle, joined during the rainy season by migratory birds from Europe.

Hippos are the attraction at 2 sites less than 5km from the park’s northern entrance.
